All relatable amrita. And so i convince myself, i am doing this for “nirmal anand” - the pure joy of writing. 😇

And the image: The Swallower. Where the content swallows you. Swall-o.

Excellent piece. So lucid and so relatable. More!

And re the image, I saw it as, (a) a wave, and (b) the Anaconda from the 90s movie starring Jennifer Lopez. Both, simultaneously.

Much thanks!! Bingo for (a) and I think (b) is what Chirag was thinking so you have only furthered the dispute, thanks for that Rohan

Hahaha, furthering disputes is what (part-time) lawyers do.

Haha! I was actually remembering a conversation we had about this, while writing. Thanks for the kind words :)

A friend once told me, "Everything you create is nothing but practice for that one thing you will create in the future that will change your life.

This attitude has helped me disconnect from the fruits of daily creation.

Also accept that it's totally ok to want validation. Just that people don't care about your creation in the beginning. They want you to care first. You show your care by doing it repeatedly, again and again. Then they will care."

I love that thought about all creativity being practice. Like a yoga practice.

Thank you for writing this. Reinforced, reiterated what I have tried to tell myself. And yes, please give practical tips on how to deal with the deluge of beautiful writing on this platform.

The topics we are writing on has not only been written before, but the others have probably done a better job too. Having said that, we all need constant reminders. Like this post itself - 'Only the doing matters' - Thank you for this reminder. I will just go ahead with writing that essay and see what comes of it instead of rejecting that idea in my head.

Beautiful Amrita. Everyone goes through these emotions. You've articulated them so well.

Also, please watch Sholay. Then read the book by Anupama Chopra.

If the image you made is not a tsunami of reading material hurling at you, I'm not sure what else it could be. Great article, Amu! I really enjoy reading these, no matter the topic!

Haha! Yes it is. I feel vindicated, Chirag's first guess was 'monster' so I needed to hear that it looks like a wave. Thanks Shalu! :)

This was so relatable Amrita. The hard part is choosing between so many good things to engage with in this content/media heavy world. Your substack does add more light to this world. So keep going.

Nice! I realized i kind of go about it the opposite way, when my inner voice tells me i’m not qualified to do something… I tell myself that there are no original thoughts in the world, so i’m as valid as the next person

I guess that strategy could work too? You're right that all ideas are inspired by other ideas etc.
